Unit 10 Assignment

Ethics and Corrections Officers

For this assignment, conduct a search for corrections officers (this could be those who work in a prison, a probation or a parole officer, a warden, etc.) who have been arrested within the last two years.

Briefly explain the crime committed and any relevant information to the ethical violations. Using the International Corrections & Prisons Association's seven codes of ethical conduct and the American Correctional Associations Code of Ethics, identify the standards the officer(s) violated. Explain how these standards were violated by the action committed.

Finally, review the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch. Assuming you are the prosecutor for the state, identify at least two standards by which you would legally charge the officer(s). Conclude with a strong argument as to why these individuals should be found guilty of the specific ethics law violations.

Finding Journal Articles and other Publications

To search for reputable journal articles, search ProQuest Criminal Justice, a subset of ProQuest Central that focuses just on the law enforcement-related journals provided by ProQuest. This helps focus your research and cuts out publication types unlikely to have good info on this topic like newspapers.
