O’Reilly for Higher Education, a resource with e-books and videos primarily focused on information technology and business, has updated its authentication for compatibility with OpenAthens. OpenAthens is what almost all other library resources use to authenticate. The update will be primarily behind-the-scenes to you, but you should experience quicker load times and increased stability.
The most significant change for most students will be the ability to use O’Reilly’s mobile apps. The apps are downloadable from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. For links, see O’Reilly’s page on apps.
Once downloaded, enter your student email (the one ending in @student.purdueglobal.edu). You will then see the regular OpenAthens login options you see anytime you authenticate with a PG Library resource. Follow the prompts, and you’ll have access to all of O’Reilly’s content through the app.
Do you just want to use the normal web interface? Visit O’Reilly for Higher Education.
For some users, EBSCO Discovery and EBSCO databases can result in an error message when using OpenAthens to authenticate. You may see an OpenAthens error message of "Looping - SP redirecting back to the login point" when trying to authenticate. We are aware of the issue and working with EBSCO and OpenAthens support on a resolution. At this time, no other databases are affected.
We have confirmation from several students that clearing cookies in Chrome resolved the issue for them. Here are the steps to follow:
You can find more information about clearing cookies and using Chrome's Incognito mode on the Library's FAQ. Read the "How do I clear cookies or use Chrome's Incognito Mode?" FAQ. Incognito mode is a good second step to try, as it not only blocks cookies but also plugins, and while not confirmed, a plugin like an ad-blocker may be causing the issue.
If clearing cookies and the above doesn't help, use these alternative links to EBSCO Discovery and EBSCO databases to conduct your research:
If you still cannot access EBSCO content, please contact the library with the following information:
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to anyone affected.
