Creating Folders

Your Mendeley documents can be arranged and managed in your library by creating folders.

my libraryCreating folders allows you to keep various research interests separate from one another. You can also
• Add tags to make it easy to find articles.
• Use the ‘Sync’ button so that changes you make in your desktop version of Mendeley are automatically carried over to your web versions (and vice versa).

To create folders, simply

  • Click the Create Folder icon icon.
  • Type the name of the new folder in the box
  • Add items to the folder by selecting, dragging, & dropping them into the folder.

Watch the Mendeley Minute below to learn more about creating and managing folders.

Creating/Joining Groups

There are three types of groups:

  • Open Public Groups – Anyone can follow or participate in these groups by adding references to the group.
  • Invite-only Public Groups – Only members that are invited to join the group may add references to the group. Anyone can follow the group.
  • Private Groups – Completely private group that allows invited members to share references, annotations and attached documents.

The best type of group for collaboration is the private group. They cannot be found on the Mendeley Groups page, and no-one on the network knows they exist or who is in them. The owner must invite people to join, and members must accept to join the group. These groups are perfect for collaboration, because you can share full text documents and collaborate on research. You can only invite a limited number of members to join a private group.
