Nursing Library Orientation

There is a resource in the library that was created by the American Psychology Association.  In other words, the association that developed APA has created this resource to assist people with creating citations and formatting papers.Here is a link about that resource from the Purdue Global Library.

Here is a direct link to Academic Writer.  

To get started with it, click on Welcome in the upper right hand corner and then click on Log In.
 
 
On the next screen, click on Create an Account.
 
 
And then, create your account (free because you are a student)
 
 
Once you are logged into Academic Writer, you can use it to write your papers.  To do that, click on Write a New Paper under Write.
 
 
You will usually use the Basic Paper template.  Click on that to start writing a paper.
 
 
You can also learn about citations by clicking on Learn. 
Then, in the search box in the right hand corner type something like journal article and click on the magnifying glass to perform the search.  
 
 
For this search, there will be one Quick Guide and a few Sample References
 
 
 
Use the arrows in the lower right hand corner to move forward and backward through the quick guide.
 
 
 
To create citations, click on References and then click on Add References.
 
 
 
 
You will see many types of references to choose from.  Usually you will use Journal Article.  Click on that.
 
 
 
And then fill in the form:
 
 
 
The Basic Citation Guidelines resource additionally provides examples of citations for quotations and paraphrases.
