Open Resources on Coronavirus (Covid-19)

by Matt Stevons on 2020-03-18T12:41:00-05:00 in Health Science, News, Nursing | 0 Comments

News media on the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has been inescapable.  Students, faculty, and other researchers in our community may be looking for official statements and guidance, as well as the latest research.  This blog post links to official federal, state, and local information resources to keep updated on official statements and guidance. For researchers, there are also links to some of the scientific research made freely available by publishers and journals.

Federal, state, and local government information

The CDC website is an excellent place to go for information about COVID 19.  Visit the CDC’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) site.

You can also find state health department websites from the CDC’s website as well.  Visit the CDC's State & Territorial Health Department Websites page.

Your local government will also have information.  To find state, country, or city government sites, visit the Local Governments page from the USA.gov website and choose your state from the dropdown list.

Your governor's website will have information for your state.  The National Governors Association allows you to browse by state for your governor and links to information and websites.  Visit the National Governors Association website

Publisher and Library Vendor Resources

Some general research information has been made available by library resource vendors.

EBSCO has made helpful information about COVID-19 and Coronavirus from their DynaMed® medical product available for everyone to view and share.  Visit EBSCO’s site here.

Gale has enabled free access to their Gale In Context: College database.  Gale In Context: College offers interdisciplinary content that reinforces the development of skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.

For researchers, many publishers and journals have posted research and content freely on their sites, often on special portals dedicated to Coronavirus (Covid-19) research.  Below are a few of these publishers and journals:

British Medical Journal

Elsevier (ScienceDirect)

New England Journal of Medicine

Oxford Journals

Springer Nature

Should any article not be available, researchers can contact the library about document delivery/interlibrary loan options.  Visit the PG Library’s Document Delivery page.
