Thought Exploration

You have now had the opportunity to explore the criminal justice profession, the different positions it offers, and the problems that the profession helps society deal with. Now, it is time to put everything together by looking into the future and imagining what your career might look like.

Explore two criminal justice positions that you can see yourself doing in the year 2035. Use online career/employment sites, such as Police1 (and others of your choice) and the Purdue Global Library, to search for jobs in the criminal justice field.

Select two positions from different areas of the criminal justice profession. Write a 2- to 3-page paper (double-spaced, 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font) and address the following for each position:

  1. Current Role Analysis:
    • Describe the primary responsibilities and daily duties and the problem(s) each position helps society to solve.
    • Identify five required skills (at least three specifically related to criminal justice), education, and certifications (if any) that are needed.
    • Research and list the current starting salary range and career advancement opportunities.
    • Explain the technological tools and systems currently used in this role.
  2. Future Projection (2035):
    • Analyze how emerging technologies (AI, robotics, virtual reality, biometrics) might change the role.
    • Predict new skills and competencies that will be required.
    • Describe how the daily work environment and responsibilities might evolve.
  3. Personal Reflection:
    • Explain which position interests you more and why.
    • Describe how you would prepare yourself for the evolving nature of these roles.
    • Identify which aspects of these future positions excite or concern you.
